The City of El Segundo, in collaboration with South Bay Sports, Health & Recreation, a not-for-profit corporation committed to enhancing sports and recreation facilities for the community’s health, is seeking funds for the renovation and revitalization of the iconic Urho Saari Swim Stadium, affectionately known as “The Plunge.” This historical landmark holds a special place in our community, and your support is crucial in making its transformation a reality.

The Plunge, a cherished landmark in the heart of downtown El Segundo, has been a community hub since 1941. It is a testament to our shared history and a symbol of our community’s resilience.

To bridge the funding gap between the City of El Segundo Capital Improvement Program’s allotted funds and the cost of the upgraded facility, it will require a collective effort from both public and private interests.

The City and South Bay Sports, Health & Recreation have united to lead a $5 million fundraising campaign, aiming to transform the facility into a modern-day aquatics center that will accommodate more capacity, offer more features, and better serve the community, all while preserving its historical charm and significance.
